Sports Medicine

Equine sports medicine encompasses general, specific and alternative medicine utilized to maintain and promote a sound and healthy athlete. It primarily involves the musculoskeletal system, but can also involve any and all systems of the horse.

Drs. Parrott, Graboys and Limone have extensive experience treating the equine athlete. Their patients include horses of various disciplines ranging from high level performance to pleasure.

We provide digital radiography, ultrasonography and endoscopy. We are capable of extensive lameness evaluations both at the clinic and in the field.

Platelet-Rich Plasma and Stem Cell Therapy

Tendon and ligament injuries are a common cause of lameness in horses. Over 30% of sport horse lameness is due to tendon or ligament injury. Traditional treatment of these injuries often requires 6 to 12 months for rehabilitation and have a 30-50% failure rate. Often times, healing may be incomplete resulting in a weaker tendon.

Because of these factors, continued research for new treatments in tendon and ligament repair is an active area of equine research.

We are equipped to offer a platelet-rich plasma and stem cell therapy both at the clinic and in the field.

Podiatry

Victims of hoof imbalance, laminitis, white-line disease and other hoof diseases greatly benefit from our care. We work closely with farriers to improve our patient's hoof quality and locomotion. With the availability of digital radiography, we can evaluate problems on-site so that we can swiftly implement solutions.

  • Ophthalmalogical (eye)
  • Auditory (ears)
  • Respiratory

Reproductive Medicine

Our doctors have years of experience practicing reproductive medicine. We have successfully bred many mares via artificial insemination, using both cooled and frozen semen. Infertility is an area of special interest to us. With the availability of our facility and experienced staff, we can manage the entire reproductive process. This can be very helpful in situations where it is not possible or is inconvenient for our clients to schedule reproductive work at their home stable. In addition, we can accept mares from outside the local area to perform day to day reproductive work.

Surgery

Our practice provides the following types of surgery:

  • Castrations
  • Lacerations
  • Cosmetic and dermatologic surgeries
  • Minor orthopedic procedures
  • Minor musculoskeletal procedures
  • Minor oral surgeries

For those surgeries which require a surgical facility, we can advise our clients and consult with the referral center, ensuring greater communication and understanding in the process.

Dentistry

Drs. Parrott and Limone provide equine dentistry services. There are major benefits to having your veterinarian perform dentistry. Veterinarians have a thorough understanding of your horse's anatomy, physiology, nervous system and growth and development. Along with regular teeth filing, your horse receives a comprehensive oral exam. Often, oral procedures require sedation, which your veterinarian can readily provide. When your veterinarian floats your horse's teeth, he or she observes your horse's general overall health, giving you the opportunity to ask any questions.
